LyneByLyne on Reddit has posted an intriguing video in which he uses a Raspberry Pi Pico as a cartridge for a GameBoy. It took a lot of trial-and-error to get it working, and the Pico is overclocked to 200mHz in order to get to the rate required by the GameBoy. You can see the video, and read more, over on Reddit.
