It has on-board the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 each of Red, Amber and Green LEDs.<\/li>\n<li>A buzzer.<\/li>\n<li>A button.<\/li>\n<li>Protected input\/outputs broken out to female headers.<\/li>\n<li>It&#8217;s purple. Many great things are purple.<\/li>\n<li>I2C bus is broken out, although you&#8217;ll have to add pins yourself for that.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It also comes\u00a0<strong>pre-assembled\u00a0<\/strong>which means you don&#8217;t need to worry about soldering anything!<\/p>\n<p>We used these for our workshop at the December Cambridge Raspberry Jam during which the kids used ScratchGPIO to program a traffic lights sequence.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" alt=\"\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/12\/20131207_1114171-1024x768.jpg\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pibrella.com\">Pibrella.com<\/a> website contains a simple Python example and instructions on how to download the pibrella library. There&#8217;s not\u00a0<em>loads<\/em> of documentation yet, but I&#8217;m sure that will come soon and the beauty of the Pibrella is that it&#8217;s very simple and just a few examples will get kids started in no time.<\/p>\n<p>By giving protected inputs\/outputs, the Pibrella is also protecting your Pi (hence the name).<\/p>\n<p>It only costs \u00a310 (plus P&amp;P) and is ideal for classroom use (because of the functionality and the protection it affords) &#8211; I can thoroughly recommend it and give it <strong>a hearty 9.5\/10<\/strong>. <a href=\"http:\/\/maniccoding.blogspot.co.uk\/2014\/03\/pibrella-now-available-to-buy.html\">Here&#8217;s another recommendation from Darren Christie who borrowed the CamJam boards for a CAS event.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>You can program the Pibrella from ScratchGPIO, as I mentioned before, Python, C (<a href=\"https:\/\/projects.drogon.net\/pibrella-from-pimoroni\/\">see Gordon Henderson&#8217;s page<\/a>) or any other language that can control the GPIO.<\/p>\n<p>You can find out more about the board from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pibrella.com\">pibrella.com<\/a> and you can <a href=\"http:\/\/shop.pimoroni.com\/products\/pibrella\">buy it from Pimoroni<\/a> or\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/shop.cyntech.co.uk\/products\/pibrella\">Cyntech<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Just launched today, the Pibrella is a simple GPIO add-on board for the Pi.
