It just goes to show that there are commercial applications for the Pi that can still expand on the educational values of the Foundation. Recently, I featured the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/1436996303\/motorpitx-motor-board-and-power-supply-for-a-raspb\">MotorPiTX<\/a>, which was a motor board and power supply for the Pi. This board blew away it&#8217;s target and I&#8217;m hoping the same thing will happen with Andrew Bakin&#8217;s <strong>Laika Explorer Board.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/eightdog\/laika-raspberry-pi-robotics\">See the Kickstarter<\/a>\u00a0or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.project-laika.com\/\">view the project site<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/eightdog\/laika-raspberry-pi-robotics\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Laika - Raspberry Pi Robotics by eightdog \u2014 Kickstarter\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/f13bd54fd8cc1ca5edf98c79ed8a2d13_large1.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s some summary information on Laika from the Kickstarter page:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Laika platform allows control of motors, switches, lamps, robots and more using Scratch, Python or C on your Raspberry Pi.<\/p>\n<p>The system is simple, and anyone can start by using the Scratch programming language to control hardware in a matter of minutes: download the drivers, plug in the USB cable and Scratch away!<\/p>\n<p>All this whilst being powerful and flexible enough to meet the needs of advanced users &#8211; a high-speed, reliable design with a variety of programming interfaces.<\/p>\n<p>The Laika Explorer board is well suited to people who want to learn how to control hardware like motors, LEDs and sounders, by developing software graphically in Scratch on the Raspberry Pi. Kitronik will be\u00a0providing video lesson plans for schools\u00a0to allow teachers to use the hardware in a lesson with no previous\u00a0experience.
