It&#8217;s a\u00a0GPIO plug-in\u00a0accessory that has an onboard ATMega chip that allows you to bring\u00a0the additional power of an Arduino to the Raspberry Pi. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.recantha.co.uk\/blog\/?p=9615\" target=\"_blank\">Here&#8217;s what I said about it back then<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s been a long road for its creator, <a href=\"http:\/\/raspi.tv\/\" target=\"_blank\">Alex Eames from RasPi.TV<\/a>, but now he has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/raspitv\/raspio-duino-affordable-arduino-programming-on-ras\" target=\"_blank\">launched the Duino onto Kickstarter<\/a>. The campaign runs from today until 3rd March.<\/p>\n<p>The RasPiO Duino has the following features (taken from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/raspitv\/raspio-duino-affordable-arduino-programming-on-ras\" target=\"_blank\">the Kickstarter page<\/a>):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Has a capable microcontroller: ATMEGA328P. 32KB flash. 20MHz<\/li>\n<li>6 analog inputs for reading sensors (light, temperature, pressure etc.)<\/li>\n<li>14 digital input\/output pins for controlling and switching things<\/li>\n<li>6 PWM outputs for variable LED brightness or motor speed control<\/li>\n<li>Can control up to 12 servos<\/li>\n<li>Can exchange the microcontroller as it is socketed<\/li>\n<li>Fits on the GPIO header and is programmed directly from a Raspberry Pi<\/li>\n<li>Uses the Arduino Integrated Development Environment for programming<\/li>\n<li>Is very keenly priced at \u00a39 (plus postage)\u00a0if you&#8217;re quick enough<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Alex is planning <strong>lots of documentation and videos<\/strong> for the board so you can get the most out of it. He runs <a href=\"http:\/\/raspi.tv\/\" target=\"_blank\">RasPi.TV<\/a> so you know the docs and vids are going to be excellent quality and very informative.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I was very impressed by the Duino <a href=\"https:\/\/www.recantha.co.uk\/blog\/?p=9615\" target=\"_blank\">when I had a play with it<\/a><\/strong> &#8211; it&#8217;s a\u00a0great way to use your Pi to do something extra and to expand its capabilities. The soldering required to put the kit together isn&#8217;t arduous\u00a0&#8211; there&#8217;s a\u00a0quite a lot of it, but the board is so well laid-out that it&#8217;s simple to do &#8211; and <em>it&#8217;s a real pleasure to use something that has been so well-designed and thought-out<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>I have just backed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/raspitv\/raspio-duino-affordable-arduino-programming-on-ras\" target=\"_blank\">Duino Kickstarter<\/a> to get the latest version of the board, and I really recommend doing so &#8211;\u00a0it&#8217;s extremely good value for money considering what you can do with it.<\/p>\n<p>You can get hold of a RasPiO Duino board for \u00a39 (plus a small delivery cost) if you hurry and get an Earlybird,\u00a0and it goes up by a couple of pounds thereafter. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kickstarter.com\/projects\/raspitv\/raspio-duino-affordable-arduino-programming-on-ras\" target=\"_blank\">Go to the Kickstarter page here<\/a>.
