Allied Electronics, the US distributor of the Raspberry Pi has sold out of Model As within hours of them going on sale. There is now a message on their site which reads:
Due to limited supply of the Raspberry Pi Model A, we are not offering preorders or backorders on the product at this time. The Raspberry Pi Model A will only be available for purchase when we have inventory on hand to fill the order. We regret this inconvenience and sincerely thank you for your patience.
For those of us in the UK, this doesn’t come as much of a surprise after previous experiences with stock shortages. What is surprising is that Allied are not allowing people to order the Model A in advance, leaving consumers with the unenviable task of checking the site daily for news of further stock.
I’m sure (and I hope!) it’ll settle down eventually and that Allied will come up with a better solution.

Hey, wait a minute, Model A’s were on sale in the US? (briefly?) Drat, missed out… planning to get one next time.
Yeah, but you’ll have to keep an eye on the Allied website manually 🙁 (Or write a clever bit of code that checks for changes…)
At 11 am PDT April 2, 2013, your Allied link shows 90 Model A units in stock. At 11:07 I placed an order for one. Reviewing the page at 11:15 am it shows 86 units left. Counting down!
