Pi Supply launches JustBoom – a range of audio add-on boards for the Raspberry Pi

JustBoom DAC HAT

Pi Supply have launched a massive range of audio add-on boards for the Raspberry Pi. Called JustBoom, the range includes the following:

  • DAC HAT – a plug and play, high resolution, digital-to-analog converter (£30).
  • Digi HAT – producing an unmodified, high quality, digital audio data stream for “bit-perfect transmission to your hifi system (£30).
  • Amp HAT – a high quality audio amplifier which also includes digital to analog conversion (£60).
  • DAC Zero pHAT – same as the DAC HAT but in the Pi Zero form-factor (£20).
  • Digi Zero pHAT – same as the Digi HAT but in the Pi Zero form-factor (£24).
  • Amp Zero pHAT – same as the Amp HAT but in the Pi Zero form-factor (£24).
  • Standalone Amp and DAC – for those who want to de-couple from the Pi (£60 and £35).
  • A range of cases that will take the Pi and add-on board (£13).

I haven’t got any of these to test out and I haven’t seen any reviews yet to compare it to the similar offerings by IQaudIO. Should be interesting to see what reviews come out once they start getting out in the wild.

Take a look at the JustBoom range on Pi Supply.

  1. Released exactly 18 months after the Kickstarter PiJuice battery kit from PiSupply yet still no delivery from these guys. How about fulfilling orders for items already paid for before trying to sell us new stuff?

I will not be ordering anything more from PiSupply, they have let down a loyal bunch of Pi enthusiasts.

    • I believe, from their comments on Twitter, that PiJuice remains their top priority but they have to continue to develop new products otherwise staff don’t get paid.

      • @Michael / M Marshall – yes that is correct. We have quite a lot of projects ongoing all the time, as well as our webstore, because we have to stay afloat and we want to ensure that the PiJuice money is not depleted due to using it for things like paying staff etc etc.

PiJuice is still very much important to us, and we are working with a great team at Embest/Farnell to get to delivery in a way that is sustainable for our small team (6 full time now and a couple freelancers). In an ideal world, for everyone involved including us, it would have been the best if we had just fulfilled PiJuice on time. If we could go back in time there is A LOT we would have done differently. It was a steep learning curve and we made a fair few mistakes but we won’t stop until we have delivered – I can promise you that.

Appreciate that launching other products feels a bit gutting to PiJuice backers, but we do still have your best interests at heart and every day that goes on we become more and more embarrassed about the situation we have got ourselves into with PiJuice. But we will make it right, as soon as we possibly can.

        Cheers,
        Aaron

        • So the ‘JustBoom’ are also only available on backorder. What’s the lead time for these 18 months, 2 years, 3 year, 10 years?

Launching and taking money upfront for another backorder product while many are still waiting for goods ordered and paid for 18 months ago feels a bit more than ‘gutting’. Posting updates on the Kickstarter project page costs nothing, yet the silence of recent months has been deafening. Are we expected to believe that mobile phone batteries are still such a rare commodity?

          • The JustBoom boards are in production at our manufacturer in Hastings, UK as we speak so they’ll be shipping in October, a couple weeks from now. The first boards started rolling off the production line today.

Appreciate your comments about our silence and we’ll do our best to rectify that. Please bear with us though… As I said we’re a small team and we have to keep everything ticking over so things can sometimes take longer than it maybe appears that they should. As I said we do still have your best interests at heart.

  2. Amp Hat = £60. Amp Zero pHAT = £24, but is described as “Same as Amp Hat”. Am I missing something? What does an extra £36 buy?
