RasPiO FullpHAT – new crowdfunding campaign for the Raspberry Pi from Alex Eames

Alex Eames of RasPi.TV fame has run several excellent crowdfunding campaigns on Kickstarter, normally delivering ahead of time and providing lots of communication along the way.

His latest is for the RasPiO FullpHAT and he’s running it as a 7-day campaign from his own site. It is an add-on board for the Raspberry Pi that attaches to the GPIO pins on top of your Raspberry Pi and allows you to:

  • Connect two pHATs to your Pi and still use any spare GPIO pins.
  • Connect a pHAT and a HAT to your Pi and still use any spare GPIO pins.
  • Use any remaining GPIO pins which are broken out multiple times with large, clear labels.

Opinion: This is just a great idea – it gives you the ability to add the two other add-on boards to your Pi and use them together to create new projects. The “killer feature” here is that the GPIO pins are also broken out twice so you don’t lose any functionality. You could, for example, use an Enviro pHAT and a Scroll pHAT HD on the other and create a weather station – really, the possibilities are huge!

UPDATE: As of now (14th November at 3.30pm GMT), this project is funded so it’s definitely going to be produced! 🙂

You can see it in action below, using a Pimoroni Inky pHAT and a RasPiO Inspiring driver board.

You only have 7 days to pledge for your own board (or multiple boards, if you’d like – this one’s going to come in very handy!) and you can do so on the RasPiO website.

The board costs £8.00 plus shipping (which is £2 in the UK) which is about right, in my opinion, if you compare it to boards such as the Pimoroni Black Hat Hack3r Mini.

  1. An excellent idea.
I have often wonder just why the Pi HATS never have another 40 way connector on top – a piggyback – so any unused GPIO pins could be used for other HATS.

    This is one solution…well done.

  2. I received an error in my last comment. So here it is again
